Review by hotel critic
Nestled in the quiet embrace of York, Carlton Lodge at Carlton Tavern proved to be a delightful retreat during my recent visit. With its spacious, clean rooms and a wonderfully comfortable bed, it felt like a welcome respite after a day of exploring the nearby National Railway Museum and the historic charm of York Minster, both just a short distance away. The garden was a serene escape, perfect for enjoying a cup of tea while soaking in the peaceful surroundings. The attentive bar staff, particularly the friendly gentleman with fabulous long hair, made my stay all the more enjoyable, sharing local tips and making me feel right at home. I was slightly disappointed that the carvery had run out on a Sunday evening, leaving me to seek dinner in the city center, which was a pleasant 40-minute stroll away. Carlton Lodge offered an inviting atmosphere and an ideal base for anyone looking to capture the essence of York's rich heritage, especially for those with an eye for photography like myself!
